Year 6 – Spring Term

This term we will be focusing on the topic ‘Biomes and Climate Zones’, which focuses on consolidating our understanding of the world around us. As Geographers we will explore the human and physical features of different biomes and refine our fieldwork skills. As Scientists, we will focus on the classification and adaptations of living things with a focus on different habitats around the world.  Additionally, we will focus on the achievements of Ernest Shackleton and Sir David Attenborough.

Our love of reading in Year 6 is forever growing and we will continue to explore extracts from a variety of text types and genres, as we refine our fluency, expression and comprehension.

The books we will focus on this term will be: Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman OBE and Sky Song by Abi Elphinstone. These books will inspire our author studies, our persuasive letter writing and our informative explanation texts through our writing learning.

In Maths, we will be consolidating our knowledge and understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages. We will enhance our understanding through the applications of real life scenarios and problem solving. Emphasis is placed on all children to speak like a mathematician (SLAM) to showcase their understanding and deepen their learning at a mastery level; this will be a key element of our Maths lessons.
