The theme for summer term in year 1 is exploring ‘Our Planet’. Throughout this term the children will become independent and inquisitive learners, ready for year 2.
During Literacy, the children explore a variety of genres including poems, diary writing and a non-chronological report. The children will be hooked into their literacy with immersive activations such as an alien crash landing!
This term the children will also work as scientists to classify different animal species. They will learn about animals in their habitats and how to care for the animals in the local environment.
In Geography the children will also explore the different types of weather across the world and will compare this with the UK. They will discuss their findings when they make their own weather report videos.
In Design and Technology the children will be creating their own animal puppet using their new sewing skills. They will also have the opportunity to create their own purposeful and appealing fruit kebabs during their cooking lessons. .
