The academy, which is part of L.E.A.D. Academy Trust, was recently recognised by the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson MP, for achieving exceptional outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, placing it among the highest-performing schools nationally on this measure.
Building on this success, the academy has also been appointed as a National Reception Networks Lead School, recognising its excellence in early years education and its role in supporting schools across the country by sharing best practice and helping to improve outcomes for young children.
During the visit, Year 6 pupils proudly led Mr Falconer on a tour of the academy, showcasing the curriculum in action and sharing examples of their creative work, including sculptures featured in the school’s art exhibition.
Mr Falconer also met members of the School Council and Year 6, who explained how the school’s parliament ensures every pupil has a voice through elected representatives and ambassadors who help shape decisions across the academy.
Pupils confidently delivered campaign speeches, sharing their ideas for improving school life and explaining how they would represent their classmates. Drawing on his own experience in politics, Mr Falconer praised the pupils’ confidence and commitment to making a positive difference.
The visit concluded with an engaging Q&A session led by the School Council, where pupils quizzed Mr Falconer about his journey into politics, the importance of representing local communities and how young people can use their voices to create positive change.
